SCE with other Israeli institutions enters the Guinness Book of World Records for conducting the largest ever Chemistry Class and Experiment
On September 22 as part of the activities of Researchers night, SCE participated in the largest ever chemistry class and experiment. There were 328 participants at SCE (the largest amount of all of the Israel academic institutions involved) and a total of 4,170 people (at all 14 Israeli institutions involved in the project) participated in this class in which the "chemical gene" experiment which was conducted by the late Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon in space was replicated at all the locations. Immediately following the event the organizers applied to the Guiness Book of World Records for recognition of this event as a world record and recently received the positive answer.
In an interview on Radio of the South, Dr. Amir Eliezer the Deacon of the SCE Authority for Research and Development stated, " It was important that everyone fully participated in the class… we had counters and all aspects of the process was monitored by video…through the efforts of the Chemical Engineering department everyone was able to be an active part of the experiment… The class was very experiential and was done according to the guidelines of Guiness. It’s a great honor that SCE was part of this".
The participants who came to SCE and the other 13 institutions involved in the event were of all ages and all walks of life including small children. The main goal of the event is to instill a love of science in the next generation. There is n o question that being part of the Guiness Book of World records is a tribute to our institution and science and research in
