The building branch is a main staple in the state's economy. Every year billions of dollars are invested in the construction of buildings, roads, water and sewage systems and other infrastructures. The building boom of recent years in the south of
The civil engineering program at SCE is designed to solve the problem of shortage of civil engineers in general and in
Students acquire a background in theoretical and applied construction planning and management and find that their absorption into the workplace is usually brief and smooth.
The first year is devoted primarily to introductory courses in general engineering; the second year to introductory courses in civil engineering and planning; the third concentrates on planning, management and performance; in the fourth year students work on a final project and expand their knowledge in specialized branches of civil engineering.
Each area of study familiarizes the student with the latest computer systems - the basic tool of any engineer. Students use software programs for static computations, building and road planning, construction work, engineering measurements, drafting, project management, and so forth. In order to strengthen the students' understanding of the theoretical disciplines and familiarization with the practical side of engineering, part of their studies takes place in the laboratories in the following fields: physics, engineering measurements, materials sciences, material strength, building materials, fluid mechanics, soil mechanics and pavement materials.
The department offers two tracks: architectural engineering and construction management engineering.
Graduates of the civil engineering department are eligible for admission into the Engineers and Architects Registry.
